Visa requirements

To obtain a visa for travel to the Republic of Azerbaijan the following documents must be submitted to the Consular section of the Embassy :
· An invitation from Azerbaijan (required for all types of visas and should be sent through Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan).
For business, education and humanitarian visas: invitation from a receiving party or partner.
For tourist visas: invitation from receiving tourist organization in Azerbaijan.
For visitor visas: invitation from the citizen of Azerbaijan, the applicant has to state exact address and phone number of inviting party in the application form and to enclose it a copy of Azerbaijan citizen's identity document.
· One completed visa application form.
Application form is available through the Embassy website or may be faxed upon request. (Please, answer all questions by typing or clearly printing in ink on both left and right sides of the application).
· Original passport or travel document (photocopies will not be accepted).
· Two passport-size photos.
· Processing time - from 5 to 7 days
· All foreigners visiting Azerbaijan for a period of more than 30 days must register their passports with the local passport-registration authorities.

Consular legalization

Consular legalization is a confirmation of authenticity of the signatures on documents and legal acts and certification of the correspondence of those documents and legal acts to the laws and regulations of the country where the consulate is established.

The legalization serves to confirm the legal force of documents and legal acts in the international arena.

Article 54 of the Consular Charter of the Republic of Azerbaijan empowers consuls to perform functions in the sphere of legalizing documents and legal acts.

These legalizing functions are performed:
a) abroad - by the consulates or consular sections of embassies of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
b) With in the Republic of Azerbaijan - by the Consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Certain documents and legal acts emanating from individuals and corporations of foreign countries are considered and recognized by official bodies and enterprises of the Republic of Azerbaijan only after legalization has been made and if other conditions of the laws and regulations of the Republic of Azerbaijan are complied with, or if they comply with specific international agreements to which the Republic of Azerbaijan and the respective foreign state are both party to.

Documents and legal acts of a foreign state body, or companies related to international agreements to which the Republic of Azerbaijan is party, can be considered on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan without legalization.

Documents and legal acts that are contradicting the legislature of the Republic of Azerbaijan, or detriment to the interests of the Republic of Azerbaijan or to the honor and dignity of its citizens are not subject to legalization.

The originals or copies of the following documents are not subject to legalization:

Identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, documents certifying political affiliation, trade union membership documents, documents certifying completion of mandatory military service, work-books, recommendation letters, documents concerning criminal convictions.

Legalization of documents and legal acts by consulates and consular sections of the embassies of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Consul shall legalize the documents and legal acts performed by participation of the government authorities of a foreign state within a consular district or received from those authorities.

Consul shall have the specimens of the signatures and stamps of officials of the receiving state authorized to legalize documents and legal acts of local institutions.

Consul shall address the issue to the local government institution or legal advice office in case of suspected discrepancy of the documents submitted for legalization with the legislation of the receiving state.

Documents and legal acts put together in the Republic of Azerbaijan, but not legalized according to the procedure of document query by means of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, shall be legalized and presented to the interested persons, offices and institutions, if such documents and legal acts are submitted to the Consular Section and are due for legalization according to the the legislature of the receiving state.

Documents and legal acts put together in the Republic of Azerbaijan, but not duly legalized by the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan submitted to the Consular Section of the Embassy by the citizens, offices and institutions of the receiving state shall be send by the Consul to the Republic of Azerbaijan for authenticity verification.

For foreigners:

The documents to be submitted to the Embassy for legalization must be translated into Azerbaijani language by a certified translator. Applicants must be advised that documents should also be:
1 Acknowledged by a Notary Public;
2 Certified by your MFA.

For Azerbaijani citizens:

The document to be submitted to the Embassy for legalization must be translated into English by a certified translator. Applicants must be advised that documents should also be:
1 Certified by the MFA of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Documents and translations must be printed.

Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan abroad and foreign citizens have the right to address the head archive department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, through diplomatic representation (consular sections) of the Republic of Azerbaijan abroad, and request certain documents. The following procedure applies:

The applicant applies to the Consul of the Republic of Azerbaijan and completes two application forms for each document being requested, and also pays the relevant consular fee.

The request is forwarded to the head archive department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan through the Consular Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. After a query is completed, the head archive department sends the requested document to the Consular Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan for forwarding to the relevant consular section.

State civil acts

Registration of State Civil Acts of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan living abroad is carried out by the consular sections of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the host states.
The consular sections of the Republic of Azerbaijan carry out the following acts:
- complete a state registration of birth,
- marriage,
- divorce,
- adoption,
- parenthood establishment,
- name change,
- death.

Notary Acts

In accordance with article 44 of the Consular Charter of the Republic of Azerbaijan the consuls fulfils the following notarial acts:
· confirming transactions (contracts, testaments, power of attorney etc) except the contracts on expropriation of immovable property situated on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan,
· taking measures to protection of family heritage,
· issuing certificates on right to family heritage,
· issuing certificates on right to share in community property,
· attesting the authenticity of document copies and extracts,
· attesting the authenticity of signatures on documents,
· attesting the authenticity of translation of documents,
· confirming that a citizen is alive,
· confirming the location of a citizen,
· confirming the identity of a citizen correlates with a person depicted on a photo,
· confirming the time of submission of documents,
· holding money and securities in escrow,
· confirmation of creditor details,
· the safekeeping documents,
· providing legal attendance,
· taking marine protests

Fees are chargeable these services in accordance with current regulation

Certificate of the return

If the citizen of Azerbaijan republic lost or expired the passport the consular section of embassy issue to this man Certificate of returning to the country.
